Disease. Is Over.

After 36 hours of complaining of a stomach ache and 48 hours of fever accompanied by an hour of puking, Ursula is better. She has been fever free all day AND we got on each other’s nerves all day, so I know she is better. At one point today, I asked for help finding a BluRay and she told me I was interupting her game of Plants Vs. Zombies (I reminded her that she was interrupting my week by being home for 3 days. Good times.)

I told her I was worried about her when she was sick – because she was moaning and slept so much. She told me that I’d had stomach bugs before and I should know that “she was probably not going to die”.

School tomorrow – fingers crossed.

Sick girl + wolf pile

Ursula is sick. Really sick.

Sick girl + wolf pile

In terms of symptoms, it’s stomach stuff and not too high fever. She’s been saying her stomach hurt since Sunday night (on and off), but no fever til overnight last night/this morning, and only about an hour of puking around dawn. So it’s not an “I’m worried something is really wrong” sick – I know it’s a bug. But – she has slept almost all day. That is so out of character – she rarely naps, even when sick. Usually when she’s home sick (even if she’s really sick), she’s writing a story, reading a book – something. Today she has watched an hour of Netflix on Dan’s iPad and managed to make it to the living room to see “Life of Pi” (issues with streaming Amazon to iPad I didn’t have the energy to troubleshoot). Other than that, she’s been asleep. I had to run out for less than 15 minutes – I left with her iPading, I came home to her asleep.

Science Fair winner!!!!!

Science Fair winner!!!!!

My science fair project is called “What Keeps Cocoa Hot?” I used six cups to use:

A- Tervis tumbler, insulated plastic

B- Travel mug, insulated metal with lid

C- Ceramic mug

D- Styrofoam cup with lid

E- Paper cup with lid

F- Double paper cup with lid

My hypothesis was that the travel mug (Cup B) was going to keep the cocoa in it the hottest the longest. I also thought that the styrofoam cup (Cup D) was going to of had the cocoa cool the quickest. At the end I was correct that the travel mug (Cup B) was going to keep the cocoa the most warm, but I was incorrect about the styrofoam cup (Cup D) cooling the quickest. It kept the cocoa the second hottest at the end because of it’s lid. The ceramic mug (Cup C) ended up to cool the quickest because it’s big open hole at the top let the warmth escape easily.

At the science fair it won 1st place tied with my friend Rose and her project. After all that time of hard work it really paid off. My friend Madeline won 2nd place and my other friend Gracie won 3rd place.

I really enjoyed winning and will surely do it next year. So far I have gotten two awards from the science fair with both being in 1st place.

Texts from Ursula

I tried to write something witty about this, but I think it speaks for herself. (She was sick yesterday, is still home recovering and I had to run a few errands)

Aside – now I remember why I don’t grocery shop in the morning. It *was* pretty terrible.

Announcing Ursula’s New Blog

Ursula’s much neglected baby site has been updated and it is AWESOME!

http://ursulacurlin.com/

It’s full of wolf, bacon and demigod stories and it’s pretty fabulous!

Ursula-ism of the day

Upon giving her TD teacher an envelope containing bacon band-aids:

I hear you are fond of bacon novelties.

Missing Ms. Hankinson.

Missing Ms. Hankinson.

Ursula’s beloved assistant principal, Ms. Hankinson, passed away a year ago today. She was an amazing lady and is dearly missed.

From my Facebook, the day I found out she’d died:

Before kindergarten, we visited Ursula’s school several times. Everyone was very effusive and loving. But at orientation, someone else came out and told us that our babies are NOT babies at school (and on and on). I thought she was scary. I have never been more wrong. Ms. Hankinson – we love you and will miss you SO much.

We have a wonderful new assistant principal, but no one will ever replace Ms. Hankinson in our hearts.
